What a day! Waking up at Camp Twin Lakes is always a great beginning to the day. Thank you again to Jill, Dan, Josh, Josh and Rick for the amazing stay and look into camp building.
We started heading southwest towards our next stop, Hampton, around 8am. Today was a 51 mile day, so we were off early. After a gas stop, we quickly thought of breakfast.
After consulting Apple Maps, ZimSkillet popped up. ZimSkillet is a small BBQ spot in Newborn, GA. Paul, the owner, welcomed us like family. We ordered the Loaded Dough. It was bacon/egg/cheesy amazingness. I will be going back there before camp for a burger! Thank you for the great breakfast, Paul.
After a great meal, back on the road. Ten miles in, I hit a dirt road again. I played it smart this time. I sent driver ahead to check it out. I’m glad I did. Not only was it an actual, usable road, but it was beautiful. Riding on dirt is fun. Until you hit the gravel. Fortunately that was at the end of that part.
Finally on to the stop. Atlanta Motor Speedway. A huge thank you to NASCAR Driver, Joey Gase, for getting in touch with Atlanta Motor Speedway. Dustin Bixby lead us through the infield tunnel and to the track. I got to do a lap around the speedway. I did a 3 minute lap (1.54 miles) with a top speed of 12mph. Driver got his own lap topping out at 42. It was so much fun. Thank you Joey and Dustin!
On the way back back from the track I saved a little turtle from getting run over. To finish out the day I drove by a place where about 20 people were waving crazily at me. So I turned around to say hello. The class at Stepping Stones Academy we’re very excited to see me up close. The pre-schoolers loved the scooter!
Tomorrow is the beginning of the end of Stage One. It will be great to get back to the A-Town.
Until then…
